As hurricane season approaches in South Florida, it is important for our clients to be informed and prepared. Weather conditions can change quickly, and taking steps early can significantly impact safety and peace of mind.

Here are three simple tips to stay prepared:

  1. Stay Connected: Keep a battery-powered radio or a charged phone with emergency alerts enabled. Local news and weather apps can provide real-time updates.

  2. Stock Essentials: Ensure you have enough water, medications, and non-perishable food to last at least 3-5 days. Include flashlights, batteries, and first-aid supplies in your kit.

  3. Plan Ahead: Familiarize yourself with your evacuation zone and keep a list of emergency contacts. If you rely on medical equipment that needs power, speak with your health insurance provider about backup options.

This is also where Meals on Wheels South Florida plays a crucial role. For many seniors, our service is more than just a meal, it is a lifeline. During storm season, Meals on Wheels South Florida often delivers extra shelf-stable meals in advance, checks on clients before and after storms, and helps ensure seniors are safe and connected.
