End the Wait Program

For a senior who needs nutritious meals and support at home, being placed on a waiting list can mean going weeks—or even months—without the help they need.

Federal funding for senior nutrition programs has remained at 2024 levels, contributing to lengthy waiting lists and restrictive eligibility requirements for many federally funded programs. Meals on Wheels South Florida receives no federal funding. Instead, our programs are made possible through the generosity of private donors, foundations, corporations, and community partners.

This independence allows us to respond to the needs of our community with greater flexibility. For example, Meals on Wheels South Florida may consider an older adult homebound if they require assistance to get to essential appointments or complete everyday tasks such as grocery shopping.

That flexibility is at the heart of our End the Wait Program.

End the Wait provides immediate support to older adults who are on waiting lists for federally funded meal services, as well as seniors facing an urgent need who may not meet traditional government eligibility requirements.

Every client begins with a personalized assessment by a member of our Social Work Department. If an eligible senior is waiting for federally funded services, Meals on Wheels South Florida can step in and begin providing meals right away—helping bridge the gap until government-funded services become available.

Because when a senior needs help, they shouldn’t have to wait.
